Church History

Jim Marshall of Wilmington, NC organized the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church about 1882.  The first deacons were Paul Hudson and Creed McNeil.  Other members of the congregation included Elizabeth Hudson, A. C. Newell and Margaret Jones Kelly.  The first building was a log structure.

Over the 134 years of Pleasant Hill’s existence, it has always been led by men of spiritual guidance.  The following men have been the leaders of this church:
  • Pastor George Williams
  • Pastor Mitchell McNeill
  • Pastor Hayes Cromartie of White’s Creek
  • Pastor L. W. Pointer
  • Pastor Drake under his leadership the present structure was bricked in 1962.
  • Pastor W.R. Mitchell of Red Springs, NC
  • Pastor Pointer of Laurinburg, NC
  • Pastor C.T. Bowen of Riegelwood, NC was pastor for over 20 years.  He obtained additional property for the church.
  • Pastor Ronnie Ford of Little River, SC the church acquired their first van.
  • Pastor Leonard Royal of Clinton, NC under his leadership the kitchen was renovated.
  • Pastor David Camps of Fayetteville NC help the church to acquire new hymnals and a marquee.
  • Pastor Grant Martin of Clarkton, NC under his leadership new front doors were installed as well as adding restrooms to the front of the church.

Our present leader today is Pastor Anthony M. Henry of Bladenboro, NC.  Pleasant Hill is fortunate to now have a noon day Bible study as well as the regular Wednesday night Bible Study.  New windows have been installed in the sanctuary, purchase of a new church van built on addition to the storage building and remodeled the fellowship hall.  Pastor Henry is making Pleasant Hill become better fisher of men.
